Vandalism to Wastesavers trucks has resulted in delays to recycling collections

As a result of a number of Wastesavers vehicles being vandalised over the weekend, recycling collections across Newport will be affected this week with collections today (Monday) heavily delayed.

Fourteen of the seventeen Wastesavers recycling lorries were vandalised and their windscreens smashed – this means that there will be disruption to residents’ recycling collection services this week.

Residents are advised to leave out their boxes for collection as normal and Wastesavers will collect them, however, collections will be later than usual. Extra collections will take place to catch up on those residents whose collections have been missed.

Newport City Council cabinet member for infrastructure Councillor Ken Critchley said: “As a result of needless vandalism to the majority of Wastesavers vehicles there will be disruption to recycling collections across the city.

“We would like to thank residents for their patience while Wastesavers works to catch up on collections and would ask that if anyone has any information relating to this incident to contact Gwent Police.”

The advice to residents is to leave your recycling collection box out as normal and it will be collected as soon as it can. There is no disruption to refuse collections.
