Tiny Rebel Food and Drink Festival 2016 - less than one week to go!

Posted on Monday 26th September 2016

The countdown to Newport's top culinary event is now on with less than one week to go until the Tiny Rebel Newport Food and Drink Festival 2016 - and with an amazing line-up on offer, it promises to be the tastiest yet!

An impressive range of exhibitors will be ready to fill your fridge with delights including meats, cheeses, spices and preserves, breads, pastries, cakes and crepes, to pies, pasties, oils and sauces.

When you've worked up an appetite exploring the offering and activities, there will be plenty of refuelling choice - Asian, Greek, Italian or Welsh, burgers, pizza, paella or seafood, and of course ice cream for when the sun (hopefully!) comes out.

And we promise to keep you refreshed whether your tipple is - Tiny Rebel beer, ale, wine, cider, spirits or something soft.

There are free chef demonstrations running throughout the day where you can learn top tips from experts including festival patron Hywel Jones of Lucknam Park, Masterchef's Larkin Cen, Great British Menu's James Sommerin, Simon Crockford of the Celtic Manor, Steve White of The Ruperra Arms, Ben Periam from Mojo the Foodbar and more. There will also be a Battle of the Burger where mEAT Bar & Grill will take on the Pretentious Burger Kitchen.

The final of the popular Teenchef competition will be held upstairs in Newport Market with top chefs Hywel and Larkin judging the creations of our budding young cooks.

The main activities on Saturday 1 October, 9am to 5pm, will centre on High Street and Newport Market, including its gallery level, and surrounding areas. But this year's festival will also boast a range of fringe events including a treasure hunt, outdoor chef demonstrations and children's competitions at Friars Walk, plus some amazing special offers from traders across Newport City Centre.

There will also be live music on the day, sponsored by Western Power, including Gwent Music's Youth Brass, Cajun Street Band, Samba Group, Newport Community Choir and Newport Rock Choir.

As well as a great selection of music, there will be a range of family-friendly entertainment including the stilt-walking Hungry Chefs, The Fairly Fresh Fish Co. whose traditional seafood stall is not all that it seems, plus magicians, face painting and the Capital Streetstars from Capital Radio.

The main sponsor, Tiny Rebel, is hosting an exciting calendar of events over the next week including flight night, live music and a new bottle launch.

Councillor Debbie Wilcox, Leader of Newport City Council, said: "Newport food festival has proved to be a great day out and I for one am looking forward to seeing Newport Market and High Street buzzing, as well as the many events and activities on the day. Around 15,000 people filled the city centre last year, and with even more on offer this year, I hope to see our best crowds ever on 1 October.

"I would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters who have made this year's impressive line-up possible. It's amazing to see so many willing to say 'we're #backingnewport'."

Supporters and sponsors of this year's event are Tiny Rebel, Admiral, Celtic Manor Resort, The Golden Lion Magor, Everett Tomlin Lloyd & Pratt Solicitors, Clarks, Western Power Distribution, Friars Walk and Mojo The Food Bar.
