Proposals for Marshfield and Langstone Primary Schools

Posted on Friday 26th June 2015

Newport City Council's cabinet member for education and young people, Councillor Debbie Wilcox, will be asked to approve the move to the formal consultation stage of the statutory consultation process for school reorganisation proposals at Marshfield and Langstone Primary schools.

It is proposed to establish a nursery on the Marshfield school site extending the age range to 3-11 years taking effect from September 2016.

As well as extending the age range of Langstone Primary pupils from 4-11 to 3-11 years, it is also proposed to expand the school so it can take 420 pupils with effect from September 2016.

The demountables at Langstone would be replaced, as always intended under the 21st Century Schools programme, and the school extended to provide a nursery and increase its capacity. A feasibility study has been carried out that demonstrates the site is capable, following modification and extension to its premises, to take additional pupil numbers.

The formal consultation stage would ensure that all stakeholders, in particular pupils and their families, are able to find out more details on these reorganisation proposals.

It is planned that the formal consultation process will start early in September and last 42 days. The cabinet member will then review the findings and decide whether to take the decision to move to the publication of the statutory notice for a 28-day period.
