Celebrating one month until the opening of Friars Walk

A video has been created by Newport City Council to celebrate the final countdown to the opening on Friars Walk on 12th November.
The video, filmed at the Admiral Newport Food Festival, features Newport residents chatting about what they are most looking forward to with the arrival of the Friars Walk retail and leisure development.
The opening of the development will see ten years of hard work come to fruition. While construction started back in January 2014, work behind the scenes has been going on since April 2005, when Newport City Council first announced plans for a multi-million pound redevelopment.
It is anticipated the Newport will rise from 198 for shopping destinations in the UK to being in the top 100. Top names due to arrive in the city centre include Debenhams, Next, Topshop, Marks and Spencer, River Island, Mothercare, Nando's, TGI Friday’s, Wagamama, Las Iguanas, Frankie and Benny's and Cineworld. Over 1,200 new jobs will be created, bringing around £15 million of salaries into the local economy.
