Summer holiday playschemes

Posted on Tuesday 19th July 2016

Newport City Council is operating a number of playschemes during the school holidays from 1 to 26 August.

New childcare regulations mean that all-day provision for children up to the age of 12 has to be registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW).

Six all-day playschemes, including one in the Welsh language and a specialist one for children with complex needs, are planned for sites across the city. Four venues are already registered with the CSSIW and two are awaiting registration.

There will also be shorter sessions of just under two hours at six locations and outreach playschemes in the city's parks.

All the schemes will operate each weekday until 26 August except for Wednesday 3 August when a National Play Day event will be held in Tredegar Park.

Places on the schemes, except for the specialist one for children with complex needs in Llanwern, are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
