Thanks to donors for laptop donations to children

Posted on Wednesday 24th March 2021

Companies have donated IT equipment to the city's young people to help them with their schoolwork.

Microsmith kindly gave 15 laptops to children in residential homes and in foster care while Wastesavers have supplied iPads. Another 10 laptops were received as part of the Donate IT project.

Councillor Paul Cockeram, Newport City Council's cabinet member for social services, said: "I would like to say a big thank you to all the companies for their generosity. The young people were delighted to receive the equipment that will help them with their schoolwork even after they return to the classroom.

"I would also like to thank Councillor Jason Hughes for his help in obtaining some of the laptops and to education coordinator Wendy Hoskins in the social care team for her work with Donate IT and her commitment to ensuring the young people achieve their potential.

"Our aim is to support their aspirations, including going to university, and this is giving them the building blocks to succeed."
