Statement following death of Newport resident

On behalf of Newport City Council, I would like to express our condolences to the family and friends of Moyied Bashir who sadly died yesterday.
We are aware that Gwent Police has referred itself to the Independent Office For Police Conduct (IOPC) and it is now investigating the circumstances of Moyied's death.
Our teams will continue to work very closely with partners and local groups to support our communities in the city.
