We are celebrating the amazing people who foster for Newport to mark Foster Care Fortnight (11-24 May).

The UK wide campaign sets out to highlight the devotion of foster carers and the positive impact they have on society.

We have joined with the other Gwent councils to recognise the vital work of our foster carers, especially during these exceptionally times, in social media posts over the next two week.

Newport City Council, like other local authorities, wants more people to become our foster carers and look after Newport children.

During the coronavirus pandemic, our Foster Newport team have kept in regular contact with our foster carers who are keeping children safe and active at home. They have also been continuing to work with those who wish to join our amazing network of foster carers.

Councillor Paul Cockeram, Newport City Council's cabinet member for social services, said: "We hold our foster carers in the highest regard, the work they do with children and young people is so important and we cannot thank them enough.

"As we would have expected, they have all continued providing a loving and secure home for the children and young people during these challenging times.

"We need more people who can open their homes and their hearts to care for our children, so they can stay in the city. Almost anyone, of any age, can foster and our team will make sure they have all the training and support that is required.

"If you are interested, get in touch, have a chat and you too could have the rewarding experience of making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people."

You can foster a child for short periods, from an overnight stay to a few months; for a longer time until the child becomes an adult or for families who need a regular or one-off break.
