Recycling centre to reopen

Posted on Wednesday 13th May 2020

Newport City Council will reopen the household waste recycling centre (HWRC) on Docks Way on Tuesday 26 May for essential visits only.

Restrictions will be in place and all visits will be strictly via a booking system. You will not be able to turn up at site without an official booking.

Opening times will be temporarily extended, but the number of vehicles able to access the site each day will be limited in order to support social distancing and ensure the safety of both residents and staff.

Full details of operation and site rules will be released next week. The booking system will go live on Thursday 21 May.

Throughout the lockdown, Newport City Council and partners Wastesavers have maintained full kerbside refuse, recycling, food and garden waste services. Bulky waste collections were also reintroduced mid-April and can be booked online: www.newport.gov.uk/en/Waste-Recycling/Bulky-household-item-collection.aspx

Now more than ever we all need to consider the environmental impact of waste and reduce, reuse and recycling before disposing. Residents will be expected to use the comprehensive kerbside collections as their primary way of disposing of their waste and recycling.

Visits to the HWRC should only be booked for waste that cannot be collected on the kerbside or not safely stored at home for the time being – only go if it is essential.

Newport City Council is continuously monitoring the effect of Covid-19 on the City and the advice and decisions of Welsh Government.

Our aim is to reopen services as soon as possible, but only when it is safe for customers and staff, and with measures that will support the ongoing fight against Covid-19.
