Newport Live venues to close until further notice

Posted on Friday 20th March 2020

Following the most recent briefing from the UK Government, the announcement of the closure of schools and after consultation and agreement with our partners Newport City Council, Newport Live regret to inform you that its venues will be closing at the end of the day on Friday 20 March and will not be open to the public until it is safe as they follow Government guidance.

The facilities which are closed include:

Regional Pool & Tennis Centre at Newport International Sports Village

Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales at Newport International Sports Village

Newport Stadium at Newport International Sports Village

Newport Centre

Active Living Centre

Connect Centre

The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre

Newport Live will also not be running their Sports and Arts Development provision in the wider community until further notice.

If customers have any memberships including health and fitness, tennis or integrated swimming programme or have swimming lessons with Newport Live, these will be automatically frozen.

Newport Live is currently working through the challenges associated with this decision and will be in touch with any customers who have pre-booked activities or sessions across all venues. Further details for customers can be found at newportlive.co.uk/news

Following the closure to the public, Newport Live will be working with Newport City Council to support the resilience of the city and its wider partners during this emergency, as well as preparing for the recovery phase when they will once again be providing sport, leisure, arts, entertainment and cultural opportunities within the city and its communities.

Steve Ward, Chief Executive at Newport Live, said: "We'd like to thank all of our customers for all of your positive feedback and co-operation during this difficult time. As Newport Live is a non-profit distribution organisation and charity, we are very grateful for your continued support.

"When this unprecedented situation comes to an end, we look forward to welcoming you back to Newport Live and continuing to inspire you, the people of Newport, and beyond to be happier and healthier."

Due to the importance of physical activity, exercise, keeping fit and engaging in the arts and other creative activity to the wellbeing of customers, during the closure Newport Live will be sharing information online to help our customers stay fit and healthy and to support positive physical and mental wellbeing.

This includes providing online sports and arts activities and exercises for adults and children to engage with. These can be found at www.newportlive.co.uk, on Newport Live on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, on the Newport Live e-newsletter or via the Newport Live app.
