High tides in Newport

Posted on Wednesday 11th March 2020

Newport City Council has been informed by Natural Resources Wales that this evening’s forecasted tides are anticipated to exceed the trigger levels for Caerleon.  The Caerleon Road flood barrier will therefore be installed.

Traffic will be controlled at the Beaufort Road junction where council staff will attend to assist in directing traffic to alternative routes.

We expect closures to be in place between approximately 7pm and 10.30pm.

PLEASE BE AWARE: There is the potential for the barrier and road closures to also be implemented for the high tide forecasted for tomorrow morning. If so, closures would be in place from 7am tomorrow (Thursday).

The general advice is to avoid the area if at all possible. Further updates will be provided so please monitor the council’s social media accounts for up-to-date information.
