Decaying tree to be removed from Belle Vue Park

Posted on Wednesday 18th March 2020

Newport City Council will be undertaking work later this month to remove a tree from Belle Vue Park.

The tree has a Ganoderma bracket fungus which is affecting its structural condition, and it has therefore been decided for safety reasons to remove the tree as a matter of urgency.

The council’s tree team has been actively monitoring the tree for seven years with both general safety surveys and advanced decay detection tests.

The latest test conducted earlier this year shows the tree has further decayed and the council has reluctantly taken the decision to remove the tree which poses a risk to the safety of the public using the path beside it.

Safe removal of the tree will also help to protect the original historic cascades which the tree sits above.
