By-election to be held in Victoria ward

Councillor Christine Jenkins, Newport City Council member for the Victoria ward has resigned from her position due to health reasons.
Councillor Jane Mudd, Leader of the Council, said: “On behalf of the council and all members, I would like to thank Christine for her hard work, dedication and commitment to her ward and the city as a whole. We wish her the very best for the future.”
As a result, a notice of vacancy has been published. Requests to call an election have been made by two electors within the city council area. Therefore, a by-election will be called with the period of office expiring in May 2022.
