“It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of Mohammad Asghar, former Newport Councillor and Assembly Member for South Wales East.
“Oscar served the Victoria ward and the wider city with passion and commitment before going on to represent local communities on a wider scale as an Assembly Member.
“Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.”
