Civil Ceremonies in Newport

Posted on Wednesday 1st July 2020

Civil marriages and civil partnership ceremonies will re-commence in Newport from July 1, 2020.

The council has received procedural guidance from the General Register Office for England and Wales and will comply with Welsh Government guidance regarding social distancing, essential travel and social gathering.

Ceremonies will be held at the city’s Mansion House. Other Approved Premises may still be subject to Welsh Government restrictions relating to the hospitality sector.

The team at Newport Register Office has been at the forefront of the pandemic crisis and are acutely aware that Coronavirus has not gone away.

While the re-commencement of ceremonies will allow couples to marry and form civil partnerships, they will come with strict adherence to General Register Office and Welsh Government guidance to ensure the health and safety of all concerned.

We will do our utmost to make ceremonies a special and meaningful occasion within the guidance we must follow.
