Grants can help make life easier

Posted on Thursday 30th January 2020

Newport residents with disabilities can apply for funding for adaptations to their homes to help them maintain their independence.

Means-tested disabled facilities and safety at home grants are available to homeowners and private tenants for a range of items including grab rails, stair lifts, wet rooms and ramps.

Newport City Council's expert housing improvement grants team will also manage the project from start to finish following an assessment by one of our qualified occupational therapists.

Councillor Paul Cockeram, Newport City Council's cabinet member for social service, said: "For many older people and those with disabilities, a small adaptation to their home can make a big difference to their lives.

"The council is also able to offer project management, from application to completion, to ensure seamless and stress-free installation. Anyone who thinks they may benefit from one of the grants should get in touch with the team for further information and advice."
