Annual Remembrance Day Parade & Service

The annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service will take place on Sunday, 10 November, in Newport city centre.

The Parade Commander RSM William Burnett of the 104 Regimental Royal Artillery will start the parade at 10.35am at the top of High Street.

The Steadfast band will lead the parade followed by the Standard Bearers, ex-servicemen and women and members of the Royal British Legion.

The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor William J Routely and Mrs Alison Robbins, led by two mace bearers from Newport Sea Cadets will then lead the councillors

The VIP party including Newport City Council Leader Councillor Debbie Wilcox will follow.

The parade will also include councillors, local politicians along with members of the Armed Forces, emergency services, youth groups including scouts, guides and brownies and other community group representatives who will make their way to the Cenotaph for the service, led by the Reverend Canon Dr Stephen James SCP, will at 10.58am,

The guns will sound at 11am to mark the start of the two minutes silence.

After the two minutes silence the wreath laying ceremony will be led by HM Lord Lieutenant Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE along with the Mayor Cllr William J Routley, the High Sheriff Mrs Claire Clancy, representatives of the Royal British Legion and other veterans.

They will be followed by Cllr Wilcox, council leader, Cllr David Fouweather for the opposition, AMs Jane Bryant, John Griffiths and Mohammed Asghar as well as representatives from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, the Merchant Navy, the Police, South Wales Fire Service, South Wales Ambulance as well as Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert and representatives of other organisations attending. 

After the service the Lord Lieutenant, the Mayor and the CO of the 104 Regiment together with the VIP party will walk over to the dais to take the salute from the parade as it walks past.

The parade will be dismissed from High Street.

Newport City Council is hosting the event and warns that road closures will be in place from 7am until noon on parade day.

The closures will affect High Street, Upper Dock Street (from Skinner Street to the Old Green roundabout), Old Green roundabout, slip road to Old Green roundabout from Kingsway, slip road to Old Green roundabout from Wyndham Street, Town Bridge (both directions), Clarence Place (both directions), Caerleon Road from Clarence Place to Church Road, Chepstow Road from Clarence Place to Cedar Road, Corporation Road from Clarence Place to St Vincent Road and East Usk Road from Clarence Place to Tregare Street.
