Damage at the playground

Newport City Council has been forced to close a playground in Pill following a spate of repeated and extensive vandalism at the site.

The floor has been so badly damaged, with large parts of the surface area having been ripped up, that council officers have declared the area is unsafe for children to use.

The damage occurred sometime between Friday 3 May and Tuesday, 7 May.

Councillor Debbie Harvey, the council’s cabinet member for culture and leisure said she was shocked at the extent of the vandalism.

“I am appalled at the vandalism which has gone on at the playground in Pill and because of the unsafe condition of the flooring area we have had to close the site.

“We are assessing the damage and until we can carry out the necessary repairs the playground will remain closed,” said Cllr Harvey.
