Newport West by-election

A by-election for the Newport West parliamentary seat will take place on Thursday 4 April with nominations for candidates opening on Wednesday 6 March and closing on Friday 8 March.

Nomination forms can be taken to the electoral registration office in the Civic Centre between 10am and 4pm. An appointment is advisable to avoid waiting and can be made by contacting the electoral registration manager.

The Newport West constituency is made up of Allt-yr-yn, Bettws, Caerleon, Gaer, Graig, Malpas, Langstone, Llanwern, Marshfield, Pillgwenlly, Rogerstone, Shaftesbury, Stow Hill and Tredegar Park wards.

Only those on the electoral register by 19 March will be eligible to vote. For those who are not on the register, it is a quick and simple process which requires a date of birth and national insurance number. Find out more and register at at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Other important deadlines include 20 March for applications for new postal and proxy postal votes and 27 March for new proxy votes, excluding emergencies.
