Council supports communities keen to clean up their neighbourhoods

Spring Clean Cymru runs from 22 March to 23 April
Newport City Council has pledged its support for this year’s Spring Clean Cymru, run by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy.
The campaign, which runs from 22 March to 23 April, will see thousands of people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country.
Spring Clean Cymru is part of the Great British Spring Clean. In 2018, around 370,000 #LitterHeroes joined forces – despite the Beast from the East causing setbacks – to collect litter at 13,500 events across the UK.
Lesley Jones, Keep Wales Tidy chief executive said: “Spring Clean Cymru brings together individuals, community groups, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.
“We are delighted that Newport City Council is supporting this year’s campaign and would like to thank them for their support.
“Without councils across the country giving the campaign their backing, our volunteers would not be able to do the incredible job they do.”
Councillor Roger Jeavons, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for Streetscene, said he welcomed groups being proactive when it came to tackling litter.
“We know there are many groups and organisations who carry out litter picks all year round so it would be good if others could join in this special campaign run by Spring Clean Cymru.
“We really appreciate the actions of our residents who are so community minded and want to ensure their local environment is as litter free as possible,” said Cllr Jeavons.
The council can help with local events by loaning equipment then picking up the bags of rubbish after the event.
