Christmas cheer for children and young people

Posted on Friday 27th December 2019

Kind-hearted residents and businesses have helped to sprinkle some Christmas magic for children and young people in Newport.

Care leavers have received Christmas hampers thanks to a kind-hearted resident and some generous sponsors.

Sally Wakely organised 52 hampers for young people who are living in supported or independent accommodation.

Items were given, or bought with donations from, the following: the POD; Maindee Handyman; Wolfberry; Kingsley; Foxwood Recruitment; WHAT in Newport and Caerphilly. Members of the community also donated gifts.

Youngsters who receive support from the child protection team also had Christmas presents thanks to Dave Rees, of the Dalmatian Bike Ride charity, who donated more than 300 gifts and sponsors Lloyds Bank, Airbus, Jojo Mama Bebe, Tesco in Cardiff Road, and Shared Services Connected Ltd.

Councillor Paul Cockeram, Newport City Council's cabinet member for social services, said: "From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank all those who organised these wonderful donations for their thoughtfulness and generosity."
