Peterstone pumping station

Posted on Tuesday 30th October 2018

Newport City Council is planning to build a pumping station which will connect a small community of homes to the main sewer.

For more than 15 years the council has had to use tankers to empty sewerage tanks which had served the homes in nearby St Peter’s Crescent In Peterstone.

The technical proposals have recently been agreed by Welsh Water meaning the authority can now secure a contractor and begin work onsite.

Councillor Roger Jeavons, Cabinet Member for Streetscene, said the proposal had been under consideration for some time and he was pleased a solution had now been found.

“The council has had to use tankers to remove sewerage from the small number of homes in the area for many years

“The tankers will obviously not be needed and the homes will be connected to the main sewer system which is good news for all concerned,” said Cllr Jeavons.

A formal application will be considered by the planning committee in the near future.
