Council lends its support to global Earth Hour and earns WWF Star award

This Saturday, 24 March, at 8.30pm Newport City Council will be turning off lights at the Civic Centre for one hour to celebrate World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour.

The council is uniting with millions of people, cities, communities and landmarks around the world in a global visual display of commitment to tackle urgent environmental issues and protect our planet.

Newport City Council is also taking action by making a #PromiseForThePlanet having pledged its support to the the UK100, a network of local authorities focused on a full transition away from fossil fuels by 2050.

Employees are also encouraged to create their own promises to change one thing in their everyday life that will help protect our plant.

The council is backing WWF Cymru’s plea to encourage local communities and partners in Newport to also make a #PromiseForThePlanet and join the global lights out event for Earth Hour on Saturday.

Show your support for a better world!
