Sport and recreation review across city

Newport City Council has commissioned a study of sport and active recreation provision, jointly funded by Welsh Government.
Newport LIVE, the charitable trust which manages and operates sports and leisure services on behalf of the council, will also be working alongside the council and appointed consultants Mace.
A detailed review of sports and recreation facilities across the city will be undertaken, before reporting back later this year.
Councillor Debbie Harvey, Newport City Council's cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: "We have a number of sporting and leisure facilities across the city and, for a number of reasons, we want to make certain they are in the right locations and providing the right services for residents.
"Most significantly, as part of the Well-being and Future Generations Act, the council has pledged to have a thriving arts, sports and culture offering. The review will look at ensuring the sports and recreation element of that aim is on track.
"We are also aware that some of our assets, such as Newport Centre, are reaching the end of their expected life spans and these issues need to be fully considered as part of this study.
"The review will be considered thoroughly before any proposals are put to the council but it must be emphasised that this is the start of the process of making sure all our facilities are sustainable and of a 21st century standard."

"Newport LIVE are already getting access to new dynamic data driven planning tools which will help us to model the future facility provision for the city and enable us to decide the future direction for sport, physical activity and wellbeing which will allow the city to host major sport and elite sport events while providing brilliant opportunities for residents to participate.
"Once the facility masterplan is completed the Newport LIVE Board together with key stakeholders can put a strategy in place to deliver and operate the facilities and programmes which will excite, inspire and engage local residents as well as attracting world class sport to the city."
