Newport City Council has stepped in to help residents whose local bus service has stopped.

Funding from the council means a bus service to restore a link to Clevedon Road and Tennyson Road, which was lost when the 10A/C service was removed, can now go ahead.

A solution has been worked out which will see the 26A/C St Julians services operate on the link three times a day.

The bus timetable shows the new CT (Clevedon Road and Tennyson Road) service will run from Newport Bus Station at 9am, 12 noon and 3pm Monday to Friday.

The new service will start on Monday, 23 July and is supported by the council.

A Newport City Council spokesperson urged residents to use the new extended 26 service or it could be dropped through lack of use.

“We know many people rely on a bus service, especially elderly residents who use their bus passes to get into the city, and they were upset when their local service was removed.

“We looked at the best way we could support retaining some service to the Clevedon Road and Tennyson Road area and extending the St Julians 26 A&C service is a perfect solution.

“We are supporting this new link because we know it will be appreciated by passengers who would have been forced to make alternative arrangements so we hope it will be well used,” said the spokesperson.
