Bogus cold callers in Newport warning

Posted on Friday 14th December 2018

Newport City Council is warning people not to deal with doorstep sellers after being made aware of bogus cold callers operating in the city.

Our trading standards team say the individuals are selling household goods and claiming they are ex-convicts or probationers.

They might say they are on a rehabilitation course but this is not the case. They may even show a card to try and validate their claims.

The callers may offer poor quality goods at inflated prices. It is also possible they may be gathering information for future criminal purposes.

Please warn other people, particularly elderly or vulnerable neighbours and relatives, not to open the door to strangers or to buy items on the doorstep.
