Council appeal after trees damaged by vandals

Posted on Wednesday 4th April 2018

Five trees on Lliswerry Recreation Ground were damaged by vandals over the weekend.

The mindless act saw healthy trees cut down and names carved in what was left of the trunks on land known locally at Black Ash Park.

Newport City Council has reported this vandalism to Gwent Police and council rangers will be patrolling the area to deter further acts of anti social behaviour.

Councillor Debbie Harvey, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, is urging anyone who knows about the incident to give details to police.

“This mindless vandalism serves no purpose, who would do such a thing? Cutting down healthy trees for the fun of it is pure anti-social behaviour.

“It makes me mad to see these young trees damaged in such a way and I hope if anyone has information they will give the details to police,” said Cllr Harvey.

If anyone has information please call Gwent Police on 101 with the reference number 1800115187.
