Newport City Council is launching a mobile app to help residents report a noise nuisance.

The council is launching its app to coincide with Noise Action Week, a national campaign running from 22-27 May, co-ordinated by Environmental Protection UK.

The Noise App is available to residents with a smartphone or tablet who can download the app for free. If necessary this can be used to submit evidence in relation to an alleged noise nuisance once it has been reported to the council.

You can download the free app by visiting www.thenoiseapp.com or search online for The Noise App RHE at Google play or the Apple App Store.

Residents will be required to create an account to use the app which allows you to make a 30 second recording of the noise, complete a form and submit a report online.

Using the app doesn’t replace noise monitoring visits by council officers to determine whether a statutory noise nuisance exists however it does make it easier for residents to provide evidence to support their allegations.

The council can look into noise nuisance arising from amplified equipment such as music/televisions, DIY activities, barking dogs and noise from commercial premises.

A spokesperson for the council said: “The app is straightforward to use and makes it easy to log dates and times, as well as take recordings if people wish to send them to use electronically.”

To report a new noise nuisance complaint residents can call 01633 656656 or report following our weblink http://www.newport.gov.uk/en/Transport-Streets/Pollution-and-noise-control/Noise-nuisance/How-we-deal-with-noise-complaints.aspx
