City centre to welcome Royal Marines band

Posted on Tuesday 13th June 2017

The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Collingwood will perform in John Frost Square on Friday 16 June.

The band, which was formed in 2009 as a direct result of the closure of the band based at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, will give a 30 minute performance beginning at 12.30pm.

In recent years the band has enjoyed performing at various events including the opening ceremony for the Rugby World Cup at Twickenham, Invictus Games and The London Olympic Games.

Now under the leadership of Major Jon Ridley RM, the band has had another year of high profile engagements including the Mountbatten Festival of Music, a trip to the Falkland Islands to take part in the Queen’s Celebration Parade, Horse Guards Parade in London and a performance at the Silverstone Grand Prix.

The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Collingwood makes a significant contribution to the Naval Service and wider UK interests. Its concerts raise funds for Service charities and it performs for events both on a national level and for local communities.
