Rivermead MUGA re-opens

Posted on Tuesday 4th July 2017

Following a meeting with local councillors Newport City Council is delighted to announce that the Rivermead Muga will re-open on Tuesday, 4 July.

The playing area has been closed for several weeks following concerns over health and safety when some fence panels became loose.

Work has taken place to ensure the panels are now secure and a six month maintenance programme will be put in place.

It has been agreed that the Muga opening hours will be 8.30am to 8pm Monday to Friday and from 8.30am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday to help park rangers with their duties.

Leaflets informing residents of the changes will be distributed soon containing contact numbers if anyone needs to report anti-social behaviour  to community safety wardens on 01633 656656 8am to 6pm and on 01633 656667 after 6pm or Gwent Police on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.

Newport's community safety wardens are accredited by Gwent Police and have powers under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

Wardens can deal with reports of noise nuisance, litter, dog fouling, graffiti, fly-tipping, smoking in public places and can confiscate alcohol and cigarettes if necessary.

Wardens work closely with the council's environmental health team to deal with noise nuisance.
