Residents are reminded that Velothon Wales will be passing through Newport this Sunday (9 July) and to plan their day accordingly.

Thousands of cyclists are expected to take part in this year’s Velothon Wales 2017 event.

The 140km closed-road event takes in some of the most beautiful scenery and challenging roads around South Wales, including some parts of the City of Newport.

Full details of road closures in Newport, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Caerphilly are available on the Velothon Wales website: www.velothon-wales.co.uk

To ensure cyclists’ safety it will be necessary to close roads and introduce parking restrictions along the route, including parts of Newport and Caerleon.

A rolling road closure system will allow sections of the route to re-open between the amateur and professional cyclists giving residents an opportunity to move away from the event if they need to.

There will be no all-day road closures.

Please see www.newport.gov.uk/velothon for more information.

Newport residents are also reminded that due to the Velothon road closures, the Household Waste and Recycling Centre will not be open until noon on Sunday 9 July and will then close later than normal at 6pm to allow residents time to access to the site.
