More than 30 charitable organisations have signed up to take part in a celebration of voluntary action in the community at a Christmas charity fayre in Newport Market.

The event, on Saturday, 9 December, is being organised by Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) supported by Mark Rogers, a trader in the market who is working alongside Newport City Council and Newport Norse to promote the Market.

Visitors can enjoy listening to local community choirs, drink mulled wine and enjoy festive treats such as mince pies at the fayre which is on from 10am to 3pm.

Jane Shatford, GAVO’s Third Sector Development Manager said: “This is very exciting. We have often thought it would be lovely to hold an event in Newport which is a showcase for all the amazing work that local charitable and community organisations do.”

“When Mark Rogers approached us with the idea of using our lovely market building to hold a huge community charity event we jumped at the chance.

“Local charities and volunteers remain at the heart of the community and are there to provide essential support even during the hardest of times.

“It would be marvellous if the people of Newport came out in support of the fayre as a way of saying ‘thank you’ to all these organisations who dedicate their free time to make Newport a better place to live and work.”

The organisations who have stalls at the fayre will be raising money for their excellent causes.

“So, if you are looking for Christmas present ideas or simply to find out what is going on in your community then we look forward to seeing you on 9 December,” said Jane.
