Fourteen Locks Canal Centre

Newport City Council in partnership with staff from the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre is hosting events ideal for people interested in discovering more about the local countryside.

A Wildlife Walk will take place on Tuesday, 15 August from 10am until 12.30pm when local wildlife expert Roger James and staff from the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre will host a leisurely walk along the canal towpath.

This free event will give participants the chance to learn about the plants and wildlife along the way. Meet outside the centre and please wear sturdy footwear and bring waterproofs and a drink.

The second event is suitable for children aged six and over where youngsters can join the council’s Forest School Leaders at the Fourteen Lock’s newly built forest school on Wednesday, 23 August.

There are two sessions, one from 10am until noon and the second from 1pm until 3pm. Parents are welcome to leave their child with the trained leaders for the two hour sessions.

The cost is £3 per child and booking is essential as spaces are limited.

Please ensure your child wears sturdy footwear, old clothes, has waterproof clothing and sun cream and brings a drink and a snack.

The forest school is a short three minute walk from the café and centre and the children will learn about nature and the environment and even have marshmallows to toast over an open fire.
