Emergency proxy votes and replacement postal ballots

Posted on Thursday 27th April 2017

Newport City Council is advising residents that applications for emergency proxy votes must be made by 5pm on Thursday 4 May.

This is also the deadline for the replacement of spoilt or lost ballot papers.

On 4 May, the elections for the city council's 50 seats across 20 wards take place. Residents can vote in person, by postal vote or by proxy. Applications for postal and proxy votes closed earlier this month.

However, in certain circumstances people can apply for an emergency proxy vote up to 5pm on the day of the poll if they cannot go to the polling station.

People who have lost or accidentally spoilt their postal ballot can arrange for a replacement in person from the returning officer up until 5pm on polling day. If it is a spoilt paper, it must be returned along with the other parts of the ballot pack.
