Group of the month - Bettws Blooming Troopers
A community focused group run by volunteers, mainly an environmental group with an impressive wood-clad building as its base and well-kept ornamental gardens which are regularly tended and maintained by its volunteers.
The building is for parties, singing rehearsals, gymnastics and meetings, and is also home to the local food bank and Newport Mediation Service.
The group runs an annual gardening competition on the Bettws estate, where residents are encouraged to send in photos of their summer gardens and a panel of expert gardeners select winners and runners-up.
The Bettws Blooming Troopers is a community entertainment group who meet every Thursday evening for rehearsals and then perform songs and comedy routines for hospital wards, nursing homes and a variety of local community events.
Everyone is welcome to join The Bloomers, whatever your voice is like! All you need is a sense of fun and a couple of spare hours on a Thursday evening.
