Pillgwenlly

VVP National Buildings including King William

Around £6 million has been spent in Pillgwenlly thanks to a programme led by Newport City Council with financial backing from the Welsh Government's European Regional Development Fund and the Targeted Match Fund.

Mariner's Green has been redesigned and is now a fitting home for the Merchant Navy memorial and the VEVJ memorial which was relocated from Commercial Street.

A number of businesses used business grants to improve their properties, giving them a revamp while keeping the look and feel of these traditional old buildings.

The Pillgwenlly Community Learning Academy is based in the former Pill library and provides vocational training opportunities for local residents.

Three new artworks were commissioned and are now in place.

The History of the Port of Newport, published 14 July 2014, marks the centenary of the opening of the Great South Lock and was made by pupils of Pillgwenlly Primary School, supported by Associated British Ports (ABP).
