School admissions forum

Local councils are required to have a schools admission forum under Section 85A of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, as inserted by the Education Act 2002.

The Newport Schools Admissions Forum is a statutory committee that meets each term and monitors the council’s compliance with the Welsh Government’s School Admissions Code ensuring a fair admissions system.

Members are appointed by the council and include representatives from Newport City Council, Church in Wales Diocesan, Roman Catholic Diocesan, community and voluntary controlled schools, voluntary aided schools, parent governors and the local community.
