Licence summary

To run a business within Newport City Council’s administrative district where petrol is stored for dispensing directly into the fuel tank of an internal combustion engine - or where large amounts of petrol are stored for private use - you need a Licence from Newport City Council.

If granted, conditions may be attached to a Licence.

Application Evaluation Process

The application should be submitted with plans of the premises showing the tanks where petroleum will be stored, an electrical certificate and the relevant fee which depends on the quantity of petroleum stored:

  • For less than 2,500 litres, the fee is £42
  • For 2,500 litres to 50,000 litres, the fee is £58
  • For in excess of 50,000 litres, the fee is £120

If granted, the Licence will be issued for 12 months and will then be subject to renewal by submitted an application form with the relevant fee (as above), an electrical certificate and the existing Licence.

The fee to transfer a Licence is £8.

The fee for a replacement Licence is £21.50

Will Tacit Consent Apply?

No. It is in the public interest that Newport City Council must process your application before it can be granted.
