Funding and Grant Support

To increase participation in sport and physical activity, the Sports and Physical Activity Development team helps clubs to access funding through a number of different grant schemes available via Sport Wales.

Community Chest

Community Chest offers grants of up to £1,500 for activities that encourage people to be more active, more often and raise the standard of existing activities.

Who can apply?

The scheme is open to any group that wishes to organise activities aimed at getting more people, more active, more often.

The group must hold a bank account in the organisation’s name.

The scheme is not open to individual members of the public, primary schools or secondary schools who are part of the 5X60 scheme.

The grant will pay for:

• Volunteer training and coach education

• The marketing of your activity

• Club set up costs

• Equipment for the club

Normally grant aid will only be provided for the first 20 sessions of the project so it is wise to consider how you will fund the project when the grant money has been spent.

Completed forms should be returned to the Active Communities Unit.

The Newport Community Chest Panel meet throughout the year to make decisions on the applications received.

The closing date for 2013’s panel meetings are 1 May, 3 July, 28 Aug and 3 Nov.

Application forms must be received prior to each meeting date for consideration.

Other grants

Clubs and organisations can access up to £25,000 from the Sport Wales Development Grant scheme which supports activities that increase participation and improve standards of performance in sport.

The grant will pay for:

• Large items of equipment

• Coach education
