The Pearl Fishers at The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre

By Georges Bizet. Swansea City Opera. A fishing village in ancient Ceylon (Sri Lanka) is the setting for Bizet's steamy tale of a tautly woven friendship, loyalty and forbidden love. The brave fishermen, Zurga and Nadir, recall a pact they made not to pursue Leila; a woman for whom both had developed a deep affection. When a veiled virgin arrives to pray for the fisherman on their upcoming expedition, the real pearl remains hidden - her true identity. When Leila finally reveals herself, she pits the old friends against each other in a deadly love-triangle. This Swansea City Opera production is a visual, dramatic spectacle and a torrent of passion, loyalty and tension. Swansea City Opera Workshops Monday 11 January at 1.30pm & 6.30pm - An opportunity to participate in opera singing workshops and learn more about movement and dance. £12.50 per person.

The Cove (12A) at The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre

Director: Louie Psihoyos Starring: Richard O'Barry, Hayden Panetierre, Louie Psihoyos USA, 2009, 1hr 31min This shocking eye-opening expose of the multi billion dollar dolphin entertainment industry and the secret slaughter of dolphins plays out like an underwater thriller. Led by tireless activist Richard O'Barry, formerly the trainer of TV icon Flipper, the filmmakers work like double agents plannning a sting. Using hidden mikes and cameras in fake rocks, they bypass the high security to reveal how a small seaside village in Japan is a microcosm of horrifying ecological crimes happening all across the world. This blends hard facts, cold scientific reason plus the tension and thrills of a Bond movie to terrific effect. "A film that will leave you better informed, tearful and really angry" Time Out
