Waste and Recycling
Newport hits 31%
The council provides numerous waste collection services and helps to fund a kerbside recycling collection by partner organisation, Newport Wastesavers.
Newport has achieved a 31% recycling and composting rate well ahead of the Welsh Assembly target by recycling and composting almost 24,000 tonnes of waste, which is equivalent in weight to almost 2,000 school buses - that’s 3,000 tonnes or 250 school buses more than last year.

All Newport residents can recycle paper-based cartons, such as those made by Tetra Pak, at various points throughout the city. The cartons are widely used for milk, fruit juices, sauces and other liquid foods and drinks. To find out where the special carton recycling banks are located visit our recycling bank pages.
Residents can also put pure cardboard in their orange bins, together with garden trimmings. Find more information in the All on Board press release or cardboard scheme help page.
