Disabilities

There are services available throughout Newport to help people with disabilities.

Some can help to make life more comfortable while others can help you live more independently.

Some services are provided in response to your individual needs and others, like information and advice, are open to all.

If you do not qualify now for a service you may in the future if your situation changes.

Depending on your circumstances there may be charges for some services.

Interpretation services

Access Supported Employment

set up by Newport City Council to support people with disabilities in finding appropriate employment.

Community Occupational Therapy

provides advice and assistance with everyday activities, which may have become difficult or impossible because of your disability. This could include special equipment or adaptations to your home

Disabled Parking & Bus Passes

help is provided through both the bus pass scheme and the Blue Badge and parking scheme, allowing disabled people to park closer to shops, or other restricted areas, whether as a driver or passenger

Day Care

provides a caring environment where service users can receive appropriate support and services according to their assessed needs

Care Homes

provide residential or nursing care and offer many positive benefits such as comfort and security, with professional help on hand when you need it, if you are unable to live independently.

Monmouthshire and Newport Adult Placement Scheme

The Monmouthshire and Newport Adult Placement Scheme provides respite and long-term placements for vulnerable people who are over 18 years of age. People who use adult placement may have a learning disability, mental health issues, a physical or sensory impairment or be elderly.

recruits volunteers to befriend and support adults with learning disabilities in Newport.

Respite Care

provides a break for carers in a variety of ways. This may be for a few hours only, a few days or a longer period. It may be through a 'sitting service' or a short stay in a care home.

Home Care

provides personal care, such as washing, dressing, and personal hygiene, help with collecting pensions and limited domestic help
