City centre - a vibrant and viable place
A diary of transformation, beginning with Commercial Street.
Newport City Council was awarded £14.988 million by the Welsh Government under its vibrant and viable places regeneration funding programme.
Its outstanding bid was one of only three in Wales to get the full amount asked for.
Over the next three years, a number of key projects will use this capital investment to breathe new life into city centre by tackling the problems of vacant properties, community disadvantage and housing shortfalls.
The already allocated funds will be used to create homes and some business start-ups in partnership with the private and third sectors.
The schemes will help to create up to 600 new jobs, provide more than 420 homes, upgrade another 160 plus and assist more than 850 people to gain work-based learning and skills opportunities.
More details of some of the exciting schemes which be changing the face of the city centre will be revealed over the coming months.
