Parks
In addition to numerous small playing areas throughout the city, Newport has four beautiful parks for public recreation.
Belle Vue Park
Belle Vue is a Grade 2 listed park close to the city centre, on Cardiff Road. The park has a bowling green, bandstand and children’s play area.
Following a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Belle Vue Park restoration project recreated the original Edwardian planting scheme and restored the park buildings.
Beechwood Park
Situated on the east side of Newport, between Chepstow Road and Christchurch Road. In October 2006, work began to create the Beechwood House Entrepreneurship Centre.
Current facilities include children’s play areas, bowling green and pavilion, multi-use recreation area and tennis courts.
Tredegar Park
Cardiff Road, close to the Junction 28 exit of the M4.
Facilities include playing fields and changing facilities for local sports clubs, children’s play area, paddling pool (summer only), pitch and putt course and tennis courts. To check availability of the playing fields telephone (01633) 656656
Tredegar House & Park
The formal gardens, extensive grounds and woodland provide lovely walking and recreation facilities for residents and visitors. The Park and Woodland Walk are open all year from 9.00am to dusk.
And don’t miss the Newport Wetlands Nature Reserve, home to a wealth of wetland birds and other wildlife, with three trails for walkers.
