Rolling road closures – Saturday 30 August
Protestors (No Nato) are holding a protest march through Newport on Saturday 30 August.
As a result, a number of rolling road closures will be put in place from 2pm.
It is not known how many protestors will be taking part or how quickly the group will progress along the route (further details below).
Due to this it is impossible to give specific times of closures at the various locations.
The rolling closures will be made as the march progresses and will be removed as soon as it has progressed past that area. However, considerable disruption is expected and we would urge people to avoid these areas if at all possible.
Protest route closures (from 2pm on a rolling basis)
Newport Crown Court car park (closed all day)
Clytha Park Road
Old Green Roundabout
Old Town Bridge
George Street Bridge
Mariners Green (Gilligans Island)
Other major roads affected
A number of roads will also be closed on a temporary basis as part of the traffic management for the event:
Malpas Road Express Way (Harlequin Roundabout to Newport Castle southbound)
Sections of Kingsway (northbound)
Caerleon Road (Clarence Place to Church Road)
Wharf Road (Junction with Jeffrey Street to Corporation Road)
Cardiff Road (Junction with Belle Vue Lane to Mariners Green)
A number of local/ residential roads adjoining the main closures detailed above will also be closed to traffic on a rolling basis. Residents are asked to consider this when planning access/ exit.
Please note that major closure points will be staffed and access granted to emergency vehicles.
We apologise for the inevitable disruption this protest march will cause and will work to reopen roads as soon as possible. Please consider the above information and expected congestion when planning your essential journeys this Saturday.
