The public transport system in Newport is huge, with public transport to and from the city co-ordinated to encourage people to travel by bus or rail instead of by car.

Bus

Bus and coach routes depart from the Central Bus Station (opens new web site), the Market Square and the Queensway.

Use the Traveline Cymru website or call 0871 200 22 33 for timetable information to help you plan your journey.

The main bus service provider in the city is Newport Transport (opens new website).

The New Link Community Transport scheme helps Newport residents who are unable to use local bus services either because of disability or because they live too far away from the regular bus service.

PlusBus (opens new website) gives you unlimited travel on most buses at either or both ends of your rail journey. It can be bought as an add-on to any rail journey that starts or finishes at participating stations, and gives you access to most of the bus network in that area for the whole day.

Rail

Newport Railway Station, situated in the heart of the city was opened in 1850 by the South Wales Rail Company. It is now part of the British railway system owned by Network Rail and operated by Arriva Trains Wales (opens new website)

The main station entrance is located on Queensway (opens new website); there is also a pedestrian entrance via the car park at Devon Place. This car park has approx. 179 spaces with a small number of disabled bays. Further detailed information on car parks is available on this website.

Car Share

The Welsh Assembly Government has funded a web-based car share scheme which aims to match people who wish to car share through a secure website registration process.
