How do I apply for advertised properties?
1. Apply
To apply for properties, you must have a current application for housing registered. You can contact us on tel: 01633 656656 or by email (rehousing.services@newport.gov.uk) to check if you have an active application.
You can register and apply for properties online at www.homeoptionsnewport.co.uk (opens a new website).
If you do not have internet access at home, you can visit local libraries, community centres, partner housing association offices or the Information Station. If you need additional assistance, please contact us.
2. Bid
Every week, all available properties are advertised. Each property is advertised with a preference given to a specific band (level of housing need) but anyone can apply. You can find out more information on banding and priority for housing on the www.homeoptionsnewport.co.uk website. You can bid for upto four properties each week. You must submit your bid by the stated deadline. You can bid for properties in any of the following ways –
- Via the www.homeoptionsnewport.co.uk website
- By using the automated telephone line – 0300 1113580
- By texting to 07860 015214 (contact us for further information on the acceptable format)
- will only be considered for properties that you bid and are eligible for.
3. Selection
The Home Options Newport advert is available to bid on, every Friday to the following Wednesday. Following the deadline, a shortlist of all applicants who have applied for each property is generated. The applicants in the preferred band, who have the greatest housing need, for the longest period of time, will be at the top of the list. See the www.homeoptionsnewport.co.uk website for further information on how your application will be prioritised. The Housing Association or landlord of the property (which is specified on the Home Options Newport advert) will complete the shortlisting and allocation of the property.
4. Offer
If you near the top of the list for a property, the Housing Association may invite you for an interview or visit you at home to check that the details on your application are correct. If these checks are satisfactory and you are eligible for the type of property concerned, you may be made an offer of accommodation. Your tenancy will be with the Housing Association that own the property.
5. Feedback
We will not contact you if you have not been successful. You can view your position on the Housing Register and the successful applicant’s details for each property via the www.homeoptionsnewport.co.uk website.
