Newport Association of School Governors
The Association is known as the Newport Association of School Governors or NASG. It was established following Local Government Reorganisation in 1996. It is an independent body and its constitution sets out its aims as reproduced below:
The Association shall
- be an independent forum for School Governing Bodies in Newport
- provide regular information to Governing Bodies on the work of the Association and to encourage Governing Bodies to bring matters of common concern before the Association for discussion
- act as a means of communication and encourage co-operation between various bodies, including the Local Education Authority, teacher organisations, parents, the First Secretary of the Assembly and the Confederation of School Governor Associations in Wales (Governors Wales)
- encourage co-operation with the Local Education Authority and other organisations, the provision of information, research and advice
The Chairperson of the Association is Mrs Irene Cameron, and meetings are clerked through the governor support team.
Governors Wales
The Association is affiliated to The Confederation of School Governor Associations in Wales (Governors Wales). Governors Wales (opens new website) operates a confidential helpline (0845 6020100) which can provide independent advice, support and guidance on issues concerning school governance.
This is available from 9.00am – 10.00pm during weekdays and 11.00am – 4.00pm at weekends, excluding public and bank holidays. All calls are at local rate and a bilingual service is available.
