Environmental Health


The licensing team licences all types of businesses to ensure safety standards are met and public nuisance is avoided.

Food safety

Local food businesses are inspected to ensure the food you eat is prepared safely and hygienically.

Health and safety at work

The health and safety at work team check that business premises are safe for workers and visitors to use and investigate some types of accident in the workplace.

Port health

Port health officers inspect ships entering Newport to ensure that public health, food safety and hygiene standards are met and investigate some cases of infectious disease on board ships.

Environmental protection

The environmental protection team checks that businesses do not pollute above legal limits, investigates complaints of noise nuisance and incidents of fly tipping.

Private sector housing

The private sector housing team checks that houses meet legal safety standards and licences Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
