Civic Amenity Site

Located at the entrance of the landfill site on Docks Way, the Civic Amenity Site is where residents can take household rubbish for recycling or composting, or as a last resort, for burial in landfill.

Please separate your waste before you visit as much of it can be recycled in one stop using the different bins provided.

At the Civic Amenity Site you can recycle:

  • paper and magazines
  • cartons
  • glass
  • cans
  • plastic bottles
  • cardboard
  • clothes
  • shoes
  • household batteries
  • car oil
  • mobile phones (please ask on site)
  • inkjet cartridges (please ask on site)

You can take larger items to recycling disposal points at the site for free including:

  • Wood and timber, including soft wood, hard wood, plywood, chipboard, pallets and packing boxes. Please note MDF, worktops or timber treated with wood preservers cannot be accepted.
  • Hardcore and rubble, including bricks, masonry, tiles and ceramics
  • Large amounts of garden cuttings
  • Scrap metal

Special Items

In this area there are drop off points for domestic fridges, freezers, electrical items, televisions and monitors, fluorescent lighting tubes and car batteries.

Please bring proof of Newport residence to dispose of a fridge, car batteries or fluorescent tubes. The site is very busy on bank holiday weekends so please avoid visiting on these days if you can.

To get the best use out of the Civic Amenity site and make it safe for residents, we do have rules for using the site. Visit the rules and tips page for more information.

Business use of the site

The Civic Amenity site is funded by council tax. Businesses do not pay council tax and so must pay for their waste disposal by using the weighbridge.

The waste disposal site closes earlier than the CA site and is not open on Sundays. Please visit the waste disposal page to view the waste disposal site opening times if you are a business.

For more information on the Civic Amenity site please email recycle for newport or call the council (01633) 656656
